Welcome to Davidson Basketball!

Our philosophy at Davidson Middle School has been - and continues to be - that we want to have as many students as possible in our Basketball program. Try-outs and cuts are directly correlated to the number of players who can be on the court at one time, to the space we have for practices and games, to the numbers of coaches, and to the limits set by the leagues on the number of teams or athletes permitted. 

 

Due to the limitations mentioned above, Davidson Basketball is a try-out-and-cut program.  We are allowed to have six teams compete in the league: a boys and girls team for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Davidson MS has one gym for all six teams. Basketball (compared to many other team sports) has a small number of athletes that play during games and a small court.  Five is the number of athletes on the court during a game.

 

Basketball try-out registration will be the week of 11/6-11/9. The following week, 11/13-11/16, will be the try-out week.  During that week athletes will demonstrate commitment over the course of several practices. Coaches will make the final rosters and post them by the end of the week.  Coaches will be looking at the following during try-outs:

• Practice Attendance

• Attitude and Sportsmanship

• Hustle and Effort

• Basketball Skills

We encourage athletes to consider all sports opportunities available to them and select the team or league that is best for them.
